What does CMT mean?

What does CMT mean? CMT stands for cut make trim or cut make and thread

CMT refers to a price component in the cost breakdown of a garment manufacturing price.

In order to understand CMT as price component lets look at a cost breakdown that includes Fabric; Trim; Accessories; Cut and Make

1. Fabric is just fabric
2. Trim are extras that stay on the garment when you put it on such as buttons and care labels
3. Accessories are extras that you put in the trash when you put it on: poly-bag, carton box, silica gel
4. Cut and Make is the labor cost including overhead like water, electricity and cost or running factory
5. Then there is profit

There is no official black and white definition of CMT. Personally I think it should just be CM. The Trim or Thread should part of the trim price component.
CM can also refer to a kind of factory.

A CM factory is just selling labour. A CM factory does not source fabric, trim or accessories. The buyer is responsible for fabrics, trims and accessories.
In contrast, there are FOB factories that source fabric and are responsible for the fabric. FOB price includes cost of labour, sourcing fabric, trims and accessories from A to Z.

Can Gold Garment produce interlock fabric?

Interlock fabric in Vietnam is one thing Gold Garment can do for you. We produce fabric, sew garments and ship to the nearest port of your choice. Gold Garment is a semi vertical factory. We import cotton, viscose and spandex yarn from India, China, or Korea; we also buy small quantities of yarn in Vietnam. Gold Garment knits and dyes in Vietnam with our partner factories. By doing so, we control the price of the yarn as well as the quality of fabric.

Interlock is the second most common type of knit fabric following single jersey. Interlock fabric is a variation of rib knit. It is similar to a jersey knit except both front and back of the Interlock fabric look identical. The double knit construction gives it a thicker hand feel. It is similar to t-shirt fabric (jersey) but double knitted instead of single knitted – in other words, it’s the same on both sides. If you look at the fabric of a tee shirt really closely, you’ll see a bunch of little V shapes on the front, and many tiny “bumps” on the back. Interlock has the little V shapes on both sides. Compared to Jersey, Interlock is thicker, lays flat where jersey curls on the cut ends and is generally more durable. To learn more about Interlock visit our Interlock fabric page.
What you see in our list on our Cotton Knit Fabric Supplier in Vietnam page is mostly cotton blends: cotton spandex, cotton viscose or cotton poly (CC or CVC). We import the yarn and store it in our warehouse before knitting the yarn into interlock fabric in Vietnam.

What is difference between ODM and OEM?

ODM and OEM

First, what does ODM mean? An original design manufacturer designs and manufactures a garment that is bought and rebranded by garment wholesalers or retailers for resale.

In contrast is OEM: original equipment manufacturer. An OEM supplier only produces garments. An OEM factory does not have designs for sell.

A brand like Mango does not have it’s own factories but it does have it’s own designers. They need a OEM factory.

Some garment business people have not designers but have shops. They need ODM; designs and manufacturing.

When a garment buyer buys ODM garments they will ask the factory to put their label on the garments knowing that other buyers will buy the same garment and put on a different label.

What does FOB mean?

FOB mean

When a garment manufacturer quotes an FOB price, you have to ask the question about FOB port. It is very important because the price you pay is only up-to-the-port price. For an example, Gold Garment S.P Sewing factory always quotes FOB price of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) port. It means that our price gets your goods to the HCMC port. After this port, you have to pay all the cost of transportation goods to your warehouse. Do you know how to answer, what does FOB mean?

Gold Garment free on board garment price includes sourcing fabrics, trims, accessories, packaging and the cut and make component. The price is up to HCMC port- the nearest port to our factory. After that, your freight forwarding company will take over the shipping and you will pay for it to your final destination. Do you know how to answer, what does FOB mean?
In conclusion, an FOB garment factory will give you only one price for all things included fabrics, trims, accessories, CM and profit but not shipping fee. They are responsible for getting the goods to their nearest port. Then the garment buyer has to pay any shipping cost after that.

Gold Garment is a family owned FOB Sewing factory that has been manufacturing garment for more than 20 years. Our strength is men, women & children styles that use circular knitted fabrics and embellishments like embroidery, screen-printing, and applique. Firstly, we sew circular knit fabrics. Then we cut and make in our factory. Finally we get the goods to our nearest port, which is Ho Chi Minh City port. Do you know how to answer, what does FOB mean?

How many sewing lines in a garment factory in Vietnam?

The number of sewers in a sewing line depends on what type of garment you are making. For example, a t-shirt may only require 16 sewers whereas a dinner jacket might require 25. A typical sewing line in Vietnam has 20 sewers. They are the people who actually do work and produce value that customers pay for.

sewing lines
This video shows a typical sewing line in Gold Garment factory. The cutting panels enter the line. Each operator has a specific job to do. We have 12 sewing lines and 2 sample lines. Each line has about 18 sewers, 1 line leader hand 1 in-line QC (quality controller). They work together to produce from 600 to 1,200 garments per day depending on the complexity of the garment.
If a sewing machine has a problem, the workers will put up a red flag. Then the technician will come, check the machine and adjust it. We have twin needle machines usually used for hems and overlock machines for side seams. They are many other types of machines that make up a typical sewing line in Vietnam. The in-line QC does the final check of the garment before leaving the line. If there is any problem in the next QC section, this typical sewing line in Vietnam will be penalized.

The lines are incentivised. If workers produce garments with no defects, they will get the higher pay. This is how a Gold Garment factory typical sewing line in Vietnam works for you.

Does Gold Garment cut fabric by hand?

cut fabric

Does Gold Garment S.P cutting fabrics for sewing by ourselves? Yes, we cut fabric by hand as opposed to automatic cutting machines. Once the fabric is knitted and died and delivered to our factory we have to relax it and lay it out on the tables for cutting. We layer the fabric 40 to 100 layers high so that when we cut one time we’re cutting 40 pieces. After the fabric is cut, it is bundled into groups. Then those bundles have to be closely monitored and kept together so we do not mix dye batches and get differences in color shading. This is what makes us a reliable pique fabric source in Vietnam.
In this video we show examples: you see a shoulder panel and a front chest panel. They are all kept together so there is no mixing of dye batches.

We make polo shirts and casual dresses using many types of circular knitted fabrics. Our most popular is pique fabric. We are an experienced pique fabric source in Vietnam.

How does Gold Garment control quality in factory?

control quality in factory

Gold Garment has 12 sewing lines and each sewing line has a line leader. They oversee the sewing of garments made with circular knit fabrics. We are thought of as a single jersey fabric company in Vietnam that takes quality control into our own hands. Quality control in apparel manufacturing can make or break a factory. Many buyers are clever and will bet that a factory can not manage quality. For example, they will write the contract such that if quality is not managed well then they get the defective goods below cost. In fact the goods are still sellable; their margins increase whereas the factory loses. This is why a factory needs focus on doing quality control in apparel manufacturing well.

Quality control starts with buying yarn that is contamination free and the correct specifications. We buy yarns: cotton, viscose, modal, polyester and spandex; from India, China, Korea, Thailand, and US. We expect our yarn suppliers to deliver yarn with the correct specifications and documentation to prove it.

Our knitting partners knit the yarn into fabrics namely: Single Jersey, French Terry, Pique, Diamond Pique, Rib 1×1, Rib 2×2, Rib 1×1, Rib 6×3, Waffle, Burn-out, Hot TR, imitation Fully Fashion Knit, Roma, Interlock, Fleece, Pique Jacquard, Knit Denim, and Jacquard. Knitters also have to maintain a clean knitting environment to reduce the amount of hair and foreign debris in the fabric. Quality control in apparel manufacturing is not just in the sewing factory. We are not just a single jersey fabric company in Vietnam. We are a sewing factory.
Our partners in Vietnam also do dyeing for us. We can do lab dibs in 5 to 7 days according to your pantone number. Dyeing has it’s own processes for quality control. The knowledge level of technicians and the quality of machines they use for chemical mixing and analysis determines the level of quality control in apparel manufacturing during the fabric dyeing steps.

In this video you see our quality control sections in Ho Chi Minh city with line leaders checking the trim cards and accessory cards to make sure everything is controlled well and the garments are made per your tech pack design.

Does Gold Garment have a back up power generator?

power generator

As a cut and sew garment supplier in Vietnam we need a power back up system because we get power outages periodically.

My name is Chris and I am the marketing manager at Gold Garment cut and sew garment supplier in Vietnam. I’ve been living in Vietnam for more than five years. In the beginning we had power outages once or twice a month. Now we have power outages once every three months. This is a problem for our cut and sew garment supplier operation because any down time can delay our promised shipping date.
This video shows our factory power generator that keeps the factory running when we have power outages. We also have our fire fighting system which is powered by the generator in case of emergency.
