How many staff does Gold Garment have?

Gold Garment sewing factory is a fob contract manufacturer in Vietnam that has many office staff for each sewing worker. We have 400 employees and 50 merchandisers. The ratio is high because we are an FOB factory. This means that there is a lot of administration that takes place during the whole process of garment manufacturing. We don’t just sew your garment. We source all the trims and accessories and even help you with development of your designs.

An FOB contract manufacturer in Vietnam needs to manage the paper trail for buying yarn, knitting and dyeing fabric, checking fabric, sewing, QC, printing, ironing, packing and shipping to port. This is what an FOB contract manufacturer in Vietnam does.

Our merchandising and front office staff manage the FOB process. They run the factory. Here you can see our staff in the office, our CSR coordinator, accountant, human resource manager and production planner. Together they manage the factory of Gold Garment.

Our dress factory in Vietnam uses Alibaba Mini Site.

Dress factory in Vietnam uses Alibaba mini site

Instead of using Shopify or Rapidweaver to build our website for our dress factory in Vietnam we decided to use Alibaba. We are pleasantly surprised how easy it is to configure and upload products. If you are selling wholesale then we strongly recommend creating a mini website on Alibaba. The cost is less than 1,500 USD.

This video is the video we made for our Alibaba company profile. Here are some tips. Keep the video short: 30 seconds. Create the video with an aspect ration of 1:1. We recommend 320 x 320. When you save the video save as “low web quality.” You are limited to 2.5 MB. Being real is more important than professional. Share basic information like company certifications, product strengths, current customers, and factory locations. This is what we did for our dress factory in Vietnam on Alibaba mini site.

We strive to be a well know dress factory in Vietnam. In addition to making dresses we manufacturer garments using circular knitted fabrics for men and children as well as ladies. We are a family owned sewing factory operating in Saigon since 2003.

Apparel Manufacturers in Vietnam

Apparel manufacturers in Vietnam are divided into various groups. First grouping is CM only vs. FOB. CM just provide labor to sew garments together. CM factories do not have the expertise to source fabric and buy trim and accessories at competitive prices not to mention manage all the communications between factory and suppliers. FOB apparel manufacturers in Vietnam source fabric, trim, accessories as well sew the garment together.

The next grouping is by fabric type. 99% of factories are either woven or knit factories. We only sew garments made with circular knit fabric like jersey, interlock, pique or french terry. Note that there are two groups of knit factories. Circular knit (light weight knits – aka cut and sew) vs sweater knit or flat knit factories.

Finally, apparel manufacturers are grouped by type of garments. Some are strong in cheap basics, some are good at high quality low quantity fashion styles, and some are good at sports wear or outerwear. The conclusion is that before you start sourcing apparel manufacturers in Vietnam you need to know what kind of factory you are looking for. Then more detailed questions as I address in the FAQ above can be considered.

EVFTA-Upcoming steps & Benificial facts

The Europe – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) is the FTA that a lot of sewing factories in Vietnam has been waiting for.

On the end of June 30th, 2019, EVFTA was officially signed which will put the import – export between Vietnam and Europe to a whole new better step.

The upcoming procedures might end up with the effective date of this EVFTA on the very first half of 2020.

It was a pleasure to acknowledge that the Garment industry will take the most of this whenever it effects.

71% of the import tariff will be reduced and will be 99.2% (B7) after 7 years since the effective date of the EVFTA.

I am looking forward to further instruction to apply for EVFTA Certificate of Origin from MOIT and VCCI.

I’ll keep you posted on any news on EVFTA on our company website.

EVFTA Opens New Chapter in EU-Vietnam Trade Relations

The EVFTA is an ambitious pact providing almost 99% of elimination of custom duties between the EU and Vietnam. The EVFTA, at its core, aims to liberalize both tariff and non-tariff barriers for key imports on both sides & For Vietnam, the tariff elimination will benefit key export industries, especially for Vietnam Garment Industry. Increasing Vietnam’s export volume to the EU, the FTA will facilitate the expansion of these industries, both in terms of capital and increasing employment.

Both Vietnam and the EU have articulated a timeframe by which they have committed to liberalize all tariffs. Key among these commitments is a seven year timeline for Vietnam Garment Industry. As a large proportion of Vietnam’s exports to the EU are consumer goods like Clothing / Textile / Apparel, the FTA could significantly increase the trade volume.

Consular transactions are no longer needed under the FTA while consular authentication will not be required three years the FTA is in effect.

Is there a garment fair in Vietnam like the Canton Fair in China?

I get asked this question a lot, “what is the best garment fair in Vietnam?” Simple answer is: there is none. If you want to meet garment manufacturers, there is none. What does exist is the VTG Expo 2015. This event is a 2 in 1 event. Vietnam and Textile Garment expo and Vietnam Fabric and Garment Accessories expo. They happen at the same time in the same venue: TBECC The Tan Binh exhibition centre is 15 minutes from the Ton Son Nhat Airport and 40 minutes from Sheraton hotel in district 1. The VTG Expo 2015 will be held October 21 to 24, 2015. Vietnam Textile and Garment expo is full of equipment and fabric suppliers from Korea, Taiwan and China who want to sell their sewing machines, automatic cutting machines or latest collection of trim and accessories. Very few sewing factories attend the VTG Expo 2015. People are always dumbfounded as to why there is no well organised garment fair where all the manufacturers gather to meet with prospective new buyers. The answer is that Vietnam’s production capacity is small compared to China and most factories are operating at near capacity. There is no urgent need to participate in such a garment fair in Vietnam.
If you are exploring the possibilities of producing in Vietnam then I recommend you hire someone to take you around the country to meet with factories in the north, centre and south of Vietnam.Personally, I would charge $500/day all transportation and lodging paid by you. Flights on average run about $100 one way between any two cities. Car rental in the cities cost less than $100 per day. You will need an interpreter – not for speaking with factory owners but when talking to drivers and waiters at restaurants. I speak Vietnamese fluently so that is included in my day rate :). The first thing you will hear is that labor is cheaper in the north.

Our Sewing Services

Sewing (OEM)

OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer and it means that we produce your designs. You design and we buy fabric, buy trim and accessories and then sew it together. In the garment industry there are two kinds of OEM. CMT or FOB. CMT means that we just cut and sew. YOU supply fabric, trim and accessories. We only manage the labor. FOB means that you only design and we take care of everything else. Our core business is: Circular knit clothing manufacturer in Vietnam.

Design (ODM)

GoldGarment S.P is a reliable company in Vietnam who works with children circular knit clothing manufacturer.

ODM stands for original design manufacturer and implies that we design for you as well as produce. There are two kinds of ODM. One kind is where you give us direction, colors, concept ideas and our designers use your ideas as inspiration to design a collection. The other idea is: we design according to our own design concepts and if you like our styles you buy without any input or changes. So, you can say we are a Circular knit clothing manufacturer in Vietnam that can design too.

Wholesale Fabric

In 2008 we started to develop our own fabric as opposed to buying all our fabric from China. We went to India to meet with cotton growers and started importing cotton into Vietnam. Then we developed relationships with knitting and dyeing houses in Ho Chi Minh city. Today we produce over 200 tons of circular knitted fabrics for our customers. To produce more is just a matter of making some phone calls and QC ing the production. Our goal is to sell fabric wholesale. At this time we are barely able to keep up with our supply so we can not wholesale just yet. Maybe in 2016.

Our Design Team

In the pictures on the right you can see our designers using mood boards to create new collections and our photographer doing a photo shoot for our catalogs. We have two teams. Each team has four designers, two pattern makers, one graphic artist and one business assistant. After they choose the collection concept they go out to the local market to discover trims accessories and new fabrics that are available locally. Then they come back to the office and start designing…that is how our design process gets started.

What is the difference between woven and knit?

The first thing my boss taught me was, “What is the difference between woven and knit fabric?” Knit is t-shirt fabric. Woven is bed sheet fabric. Why is this important? When you enter into the garment manufacturing world you need to know what fabric you are working with. The first question I ask people when they contact us about garment manufacturing in Vietnam is: what kind of fabric does your garment use? If they don’t know the difference then I know their level of knowledge and experience. Another reason for knowing the difference between woven and knit is because most factories work with one fabric or the other not both. For example we are a knit factory not woven. It means that we make t-shirts, polos, hoodies, dresses using circular knitted fabrics like single jersey, pique, interlock etc. We don’t make wedding dresses or mens dress shirts using woven fabric. Below are two images that clearly distinguish the two kinds of fabric.
Also can find out what is the difference between woven and knit fabric on What The Craft website.

Difference Between Circular Knit and Flat Knit
Don’t confuse circular knit with flat knit. Circular knit is made with a machine that knits the fabric in a cylinder and the weight is “light.” Circular knit fabric has a gauge of 12 to 22 which basically means that the fabric is thin like t-shirt or fleece fabric. Flat knit is made with a machine that knits the fabric in sheets ( or flat) and the gauge is 2 to 10. Flat knit is thick sweater fabric like your grandmother usually makes sitting in a rocking chair with two needle-sticks. Below is a picture of a circular knit machine and flat knit machine. We work with circular knit fabric. Understanding how these two machines are different is key to understanding the answer to: What is the difference between woven and knit fabric?
